Optimization of adjustment to the university in student from the Far North rural areas

Abstract

The results of comprehensive research of university adjustment of students from the Far North rural areas (713 students; 304 of them are from the Far North rural areas and 409 are from urban areas). The aim of the research was to determine the effect of the level of communicative personal competence at the success of socio-psychological adjustment of student to the university requirements and to estimate the extent of dependency of the abovementioned competence on the level of behavior mediating cognitive skills. It is shown that 82 % of freshmen coming from the Far North rural areas have low or even very low level of socio-psychological adjustment. The demand for development of a system of psychological and educational interventions aimed at optimization of university adjustment of students from the Far North rural areas is substantiated. It is revealed that the level of development of personal and socio-communicative competence in students determines the success of their socio-psychological adjustment to the university requirements. It is proven that the level of mastery in cognitive skills of behavior mediating is the factor that determines the level of personal and socio-communicative competence.
