Abstract

Context and relevance. Legislation is currently expanding the period of working capacity, including for specialists eligible for early retirement, teachers, and those in high-risk professions. Finding resources to make this less painful for professionals is urgent. Objective. To test the effectiveness of the author's program for developing self-control using virtual reality technologies as a resource for increasing the components of professional longevity of educational psychologists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Hypothesis. The quality of students’ motivation, their satisfaction with the learning process and their intentions to complete their education are positively correlated with autonomous motivation and negatively correlated with controlled motivation. Methods and materials. The study involved 68 working educational psychologists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system (91% women). They were randomly divided into experimental and control groups (34 people each). Methods. Questionnaires: self-organization of activities (E.Yu. Mandrikova), "Behavior Control" (E.A. Sergienko). Mental activation and emotional tone (N.A. Kurgansky, T.A. Nemchin), "Subjective assessment of health" (P.V. Voitenko). "Expected retirement age" (T.N. Berezina) and a questionnaire on reasons for continuing to work after retirement (originally developed). Intervention methods: self-regulation and self-control training using VR technologies. Results. Cause-and-effect relationships between self-control abilities and components of professional longevity have been established. Developing behavioral control significantly increases situational characteristics of professional longevity (mental activation, emotional tone, interest, comfort, and situational health assessment). Developing self-management skills significantly increases basic characteristics of professional longevity: the "can" component, the "want" component, and the "must" component. Conclusions. The use of virtual reality technologies in psychological training is a proven means of increasing their effectiveness. Developing self-control improves professional longevity.
