Social Exclusion as a Social Psychological Phenomenon

2665

Abstract

The paper discusses the issue of the relationship between an individual and the society when the former finds social reality impossible to accept. Social exclusion (i.e. exclusion from the social system) has been traditionally understood as the research domain of sociology; however, this concept definitely has an obvious psychological component as well. The paper explores social exclusion as a social psychological phenomenon from the perspective of sev¬eral theories and provides an insight into experiences of social exclusion through the prism of social identity structure.
