On the Perspectives of Traffic Psychology Development in Russia

The paper addresses the issues of traffic psychology, one of the branches in modern psychological research. Recent years have seen an increase in the scientific interest in the problems of interaction of individuals in the social and 'artificially designed' environ¬ments, of which traffic environment in a big city is a fine example. The paper describes the patterns of applied research in traffic psychology which plays an important role in Western psychology because of its contribution to the understanding of purely human factors in the development of road and traffic environment and in the improvements of traffic mobility and road safety. Special attention is drawn to particular problems of a social psychological origin that shape the specifics of traffic environment in the Moscow region.
