Figure for the news

Today it is obvious that the ideas of Vygotsky and his followers have proven themselves relevant in the 21st century for solving new scientific problems and for constructing social practices, the possibility of the existence of which 100 or even 50 years ago was difficult to assume. In his work "The Historical Meaning of the Crisis in Psychology", L.S. Vygotsky writes about practice not only as "the stone which the builders rejected” of the building of scientific psychology. He stressed that such a psychology could take shape in various areas of "highly organized practice" oriented towards the development of man in his historically new forms. We live in the age of "experiments on human potential", unpredictable in their results, which are set by man (humanity) himself, without participation, less often with the participation of psychologists. The practice of developmental education, created by psychologists of the cultural-historical school in the 20th century, and now being implemented all over the world at different levels, in various forms of education, confirms the productivity of including psychologists in such "experiments". And psychology itself broadens in them its research horizons. An example of this is the research of the modern infosphere from the perspective of cultural-historical psychology, the results of which were presented in the recent thematic issue of the "Cultural-Historical Psychology" journal (No. 2, 2023).

We felt that in the centenary year of Cultural-Historical Psychology, it was appropriate to present a broader picture of the expansion of its research priorities in the context of the changes in social practices in the 21st century.

This also determined the choice of the topic of the issue of the "Cultural-Historical Psychology" journal (No. 4, 2024), for work on the materials of which the editorial board invites authors - "The 100th Anniversary of Cultural-Historical Psychology: Broadening Research Horizons". We expect the authors' contributions to answer the following questions:

  1. What spheres of life of the modern person can be drawn into the orbit of interests of cultural-historical psychology, taking into account its explanatory possibilities and heuristic potential?
  2. What phenomena of his life give special relevance to the ideas of cultural-historical psychology?
  3. What classical problems of cultural-historical psychology may receive a new solution in the 21st century?
  4. What are the possible research trends of cultural-historical psychology in the near historical perspective?
  5. How can the ideas of cultural-historical psychology become the basis for transforming the world of social practices?

The thematic editors of the issue are V.V. Rubtsov, V.T. Kudryavtsev, M. Dafermos

The deadline for manuscript submission is 1 September 2024.
