The Relationship Between the Academic Motivation of Students and Their Socio-Psychological Interpretation of The Teacher’s Personality in The Context of a Public Media Lecture

Abstract

The article presents the results of an experimental study of the relationship of academic motivation of students with their socio-psychological interpretation of the personality of the teacher in the context of a public media lecture. The study involved 111 students and 8 lecturers. The participants of the study watched a professor’s lecture recorded in the presence of the audience, after which the students characterized the personality of the lecturer based on the severity of a particular quality. This article provides an analysis of the results obtained in two groups, students from the first group evaluated a teacher who gave a highly rated lecture, students from the second group – a lecture with low grades. The rating of the lecture was determined by counting the average value by four parameters: “interest,” “pithiness,” “desire to watch similar lectures in the future,” “utility”. In the first group, we assigned four lectures with high average grades, the number of participants – 49 students, the second group includes four lectures with low average grades, the number of respondents – 62 students. The results of the study showed that there were no significant differences between lectures with high and low grades on any of the parameters studied. During the study, we found the correlational links between the academic motivation of students and their assessment of the personality of the teacher.
