Factors Influencing the Perception of the Teacher's Oral Speech

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of factors influencing the perception of teachers' oral speech by students in the process of learning activities. This study is a continuation of the one conducted earlier (2021), in which significant characteristics of oral speech were identified for students studying in a distance format. The present study involved 411 students (247 girls and 164 boys) aged from 19 to 24 years, the average age of the respondents was 21.61.3 years. Students studied full-time in the following specialties: pedagogy, medicine and psychology. In the course of the study, we found that the perception of the teacher's oral speech by students does not depend on the form of education (remote or face-to-face), but is associated with the leading modality in the perception of information, the prevailing motivation, and the profession received. Regardless of the type of perception, students paid attention to the correctness of the construction of the phrase (p=0.043), the emotional coloring of statements (p=0.007) and the culture of speech (p=0.054). The respondents' leading motives were professional, educational, cognitive and creative self-realization motives, which indicates a desire to develop in the chosen specialty. At the same time, motivation is significantly related to the leading type of perception of information, and, therefore, will affect the perception of the teacher's oral speech.
