Technological and Pedagogical Aspects of Teaching Professionally Oriented Foreign Language in a Distance Form
Abstract
The article analyzes the possibilities and advantages of a distance form of education within the framework of highly specialized training courses for certain categories of students. An innovative technology for teaching elements of professional English-language communication to emergency service operators (hereinafter referred to as EPELC) who receive telephone messages from injured citizens in English is presented. The effectiveness of a special course created in the virtual learning environment Moodle for solving the problems of transferring linguistic knowledge and practicing certain speech skills is analyzed. EPELC is an innovative product of the teaching staff of the Department of Modern Languages of the University of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, created as part of the initiative scientific research «Development of technologies for linguistic education, taking into account the characteristics of professional discourse in the fire and rescue sphere and life safety».
