Active Learning: A New Perspective on Teaching in the Modern World

0

Abstract

The article presents a comparative analysis of active learning and traditional lectures in higher education settings. The advantages and disadvantages of each method are considered, and an overview of their effectiveness in the learning process is provided. The article consists of two sections. The first section is titled “Is Lecture a Passive Form of Learning?” Traditionally, lectures are considered a passive form of learning. This section examines whether this is true. Characteristics of lectures such as: one-way flow of information; modeling behavior and developing personal qualities; developing listening skills; activating internal dialogue; effectiveness in teaching large groups of students are discussed. The second section provides an overview of active learning, examining characteristics associated with this form, namely: student activity; mental schemes; development of critical thinking; competency-based approach. By considering the strengths and weaknesses of both methods, this article aims to provide educators with valuable information for developing effective teaching strategies that maximize student engagement and yield better results in mastering the material.
