Abstract

Context and relevance. The study aims to explore the social situation of development in adolescence through the context of cultural congruence and divergent thinking. The theoretical basis of the study was: the theory of cultural congruence, which reveals the essence of behavioral aspects stipulated by invariant rules and the theory of divergent thinking, which is defined as the ability to find different solutions to one situation. Objective. Based on empirical research to study the nature of the relationship between cultural congruence and divergent thinking of people of puberty age. Results. It has been established that the characteristics of cultural congruence and divergent thinking in adolescents are inversely related, which confirms the validity of the theory of the ambivalence of these characteristics. Hypothesis. Divergent thinking and cultural congruence of adolescents are expected to have a meaningful inverse correlation. Methods and materials. The study involved 272 adolescents, aged M = 14,86; SD = 1.19, including 139 males and 133 females. The list of methods used in the empirical study: L.F. Bayanova and O.G. Minyaev’s test “Determining the level of cultural congruence for adolescents”; H. Zivert’s test “Determination of creative abilities”; F. Williams’ test “Creativity”; F. Williams’ test “CAP”; N.A. Baturin and E.L. Soldatova’s test “Diagnostics of divergent thinking”. Conclusions. It has been established that the study of the relationship between cultural congruence and divergent thinking plays an important role in psychology. The material is aimed at improving the system of psychological support, education and upbringing of adolescents. The results can be used by professionals working with adolescents and parents raising adolescent children.
