1127

Abstract

The article reviews the works of State Academy of Arts (GAKhN) dedicated to the problem of inner form which were carried out during 1920—1930s in Russia. The author shows the substance of two research directions, on literature (G.G. Shpet) and on painting (A.G. Gabrichevsky, N.I. Zhinkin, B.M. Teplov), in which the means of translating an artist's emotional experience were revealed in different ways, and various methods were used for evoking emotions of an audience. Understanding that sign and symbol are interrelated through the correlation between logical and poetical inner forms — that is what unites the two directions.
