The Problem of Beauty in the Works of P. Florensky: Interdisciplinary and Polyparadigmatic Approach

851

Abstract

The article analyses P. Florensky's concept of beautiful both in its uniqueness and in that it follows the tradition of V. Solovyov, because Florensky similarly understands beauty as «all-unity» grasped by rational intuition. Another common characteristic is the leading role of poetry (first of all, the symbolist poetry) in exploring the principles of beauty. The unique character of Florensky becomes visible in his attempts to combine mathematical, biological, psychological and philosophical approaches in order to create the concept of beauty both abstract, multicultural, and concrete, reality related. The abstract character of Florensky's concept is also in that it integrates both natural and artificial as different aspects and facets of the beauty image in one's mind, whereas the reality related character reveals itself not only in the reflection of the harmony of natural and social existence, but in the recognition of new trends and tendencies in contemporary art as well.
