Abstract

The paper describes the specific features cognitive activity takes in intellectually gifted adolescents. Based on practical work experience and literature analysis, a new type of behavioural addiction is proposed, which has cognitive activity as its object, is socially desirable, and is observed in intellectually gifted adolescents. The results of an original study are presented, allowing to describe different developmental patterns of intellectually gifted adolescents, the association of specific features of their giftedness with types of their family situation, and the factors and conditions that fortify a child’s dependence upon cognitive activity. The general recommendations for discovering ways of psychological work with gifted children and their families are given.
