Abstract

Context and relevance. The significance of studying adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), apart from their high prevalence, is related to the understanding that early trauma leads to psychological and biological changes, but also increasing the risk of mental disorders and somatic diseases in adults. Objective: To validate the Russian version of the Adverse Childhood Experience Questionnaire (ACE-10) in a sample of patients with severe mental disorders. Materials and Methods: A total of 163 psychiatric inpatients were examined between 2019 and 2024. The proportion of women in the sample was 59,3%. The average age (M[S.D.]) was 33.4 [12] years. Nosological affiliation: F2 — 76,1%, F3 — 9,2%, F4 — 1,2%, F6 — 11,7%, F0 — 1,8%. Results: The ACE-10 has high internal consistency (α20=0,732, λ6=0,94). A stable 3-factor structure was identified: «Abuse», «Neglect» and «Household Challenges». Conclusion: The validity of the ACE-10 in Russian was confirmed. The subscales of the adapted version of the instrument are consistent with the original structure of the ACE-10 and consider cultural and contextual differences in the perception of adverse childhood experiences.
