Individual psychological characteristics of women of reproductive age with infertility of unknown origin and pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy

Context and relevance. Female infertility of unknown origin is an interdisciplinary problem, but the medical aspect of infertility receives much more attention than psychosocial factors. Objective. To identify the individual psychological characteristics of women of reproductive age with infertility of unknown origin and women in the first trimester of pregnancy, and to determine the specifics of their psychological profile depending on their reproductive status. Research hypothesis: Women with unexplained infertility will differ from pregnant women in the first trimester in their emotional state and responses, locus of control, and coping behavior, which may indicate a specific psychological profile. Methods and materials. The study involved 70 women in the first trimester of pregnancy and 55 women diagnosed with infertility of unknown origin. The age range was 28-35 years. Such psychodiagnostic methods were used as: "Perth Alexithymia Questionnaire" (P.M. Larionov, D.A. Preece, O.Y. Khokhlova, M.V. Yakovleva), 2023; Integrative anxiety test (Bekhterev National Research Institute of Psychology, Ph.D. A.P. Bizyuk, MD, Professor L.I. Wasserman, PhDB.V. Iovlev, M.D.), 2005; COPE Stress Management Questionnaire (P.A. Ivanov, N.G. Garanyan), 2010; Attitude to a Significant Life Situation methodology (Korzhova E.Yu.), 2015; NCHL Neurotic Personality Traits Questionnaire (NIPNI publishing house Bekhtereva), 2003. The following mathematical statistics methods were used: Kolmogorov-Smirnov criterion; Mann-Whitney U test; Pearson's χ2 test (contingency tables). Results. Women with diagnosed infertility of unknown etiology exhibit higher levels of alexithymia, hypochondriacal symptoms, a predominance of maladaptive coping strategies, a more pronounced pessimistic assessment of the situation, and a tendency toward an external locus of control than pregnant women in the first trimester. The obtained results suggest a specific psychological profile for women in this group.
