The Questionnaire of Values Materialism (VM): Conceptualize and Scale Development

Abstract

The article presents the results of the development and testing of the author's methodology for diagnosing materialism as a phenomenon of the value consciousness. The authors reveal the conceptual foundations of materialism, highlight the problems of conceptualizing the phenomenon of value materialism and its measurement. The theoretical basis of the methodology was the motivational and value concepts of materialism, the theory of individual basic values of Sh. Schwartz. Approbation of the methodology was carried out on a sample of 184 people. Psychometric properties of the questionnaire (content, structural, construct validity, consistent reliability) are considered in the article. The results of approbation allow us to state that the version obtained from 22 items combined into one scale.
