Vocatives and Their Functions in the Story by A.S. Pushkin “The Captain’s Daughter” (to the 225th Anniversary of the Birth)

The article discusses different types of vocatives that are performed in the story by A.S. Pushkin's "The Captain's Daughter" has a number of significant functions. It has been established that they not only serve as a means of nomination and identification of the addressee, but also perform equally important functions — social-regulatory and emotive. It has been revealed that neutral, characterological and ironic addresses create a speech portrait of the speaker, evaluate the characters of the work, indicate their social status, characterize actions, reveal the inner world, demonstrate the relationship between communicants.
