Abstract

The article presents the materials of a report prepared in 2010 for the president of the USA in which it is noted that there is a need for a reform of STEM education in the country. One of the mentioned reasons is the students’ low level of academic progress and interest in mathematics, computer technologies, chemistry, physics and other sciences. Another reason, according to the experts, is the fact the USA does not adequately use its own intellectual potential: foreigners are employed in the area of production of new technologies, and Americans choose other fields of work. The report contains key recommendations on reforming the system of STEM education. The latter concern the questions of financing, unified standard sand system of evaluation of knowledge, educational technologies, preparation of educators and students.
