Mediation as an interdisciplinary science and socially important institute

1819

Abstract

We characterize mediation as an interdisciplinary field of knowledge and outline the range of scientific fields, capable of providing adequate analytical and theoretical basis for dispute resolution through mediation. Among these areas of science are psychology and socio-psychological sciences, logic, cybernetics, mathematics, semiotics, cultural studies (including subcultures studies), sociology, anthropology, evolutionary biology, linguistics, history, ethics, education, political science, regional studies, law, ethnography, psychophysiology and neurobiology. We substantiate the necessity of research, allowing to predict the mediation success, and give rational explanations for why and when this method is applicable. The possibilities of actual and potential use of mediation in various areas of modern society are shown. We describe in general the method of applying the principles of mediation outside the proper procedure – the “mediation approach”, including the example of the method of “school mediation”.
