Student as Subject of an Educational-Developing Environment of the University

This paper aims to identify types of a person’s subjective connection with the educational-developing environment of the University and to determine impact of those types on the productivity of personality’s relationships with the environment. The expression of intellectual orientation and mobility of environmental subjects serves as the basis for typology. These properties, by the author’s opinion, reflect the most the essence of the classical university. The classical university should bring up a thinking person, capable of solving the real problems of the modern world. The four main types of subjective connection are discussed: intellectual and creative (high intellectual orientation and high mobility), pragmatic (high mobility and low intellectual orientation), contemplative (high intellectual orientation and low mobility), and imitative (low intellectual orientation and low mobility). The typical features of these types interaction with the environment are described. The intellectual and creative type of subjective connection is considered as the elite one and the most appropriate to the nature of university education. The necessity for educational assistance in establishing productive relationships with the environment, taking into account the specifics of subjective connection is shown.
