Influence of Character Accentuations on the Choice of Profession in the Area of Ecology and Natural Resources

Abstract

One of the main personality factors in professional self-determination are characteriological characteristics. The most pronounced personality traits form an accentuation. The aim of this study is to identify the influence of character accentuations on the choice of profession in the area of ecology and natural resources. The following provision served as a general hypothesis of the study: the choice of the profession in the area of ecology and natural resources is determined by the accentuated personality traits. The study of the influence of the characteriological characteristics on the profession choice was conducted on the basis of the Moscow State Forest University. The study involved students from different departments: Humanities, Forestry, Economics and Foreign Relations, Mechanical and Chemical Technology of Wood, Landscape Architecture, in total - 488 people. Character accentuations were studied with methods of H. Shmisek and A.E. Lichko. The analysis of the personality traits’ influence on the career choices shows a relationship between the types of accentuations and the process of professional self-determination. The results of the study can be implemented in the universities for realization of the differentiated approach to teaching students by organizing study groups and creating optimal conditions for the formation of professionally important qualities of future specialists.
