Motivation and internal conflicts of senior school pupils

Abstract

Relationship between importance and accessibility of values for teenagers was studied on emotional (unconscious) level and on the level of conscious knowledge of social norms and relationship rules. It is shown that the nature of perception of values as important and accessible is specifically related to the type of dominating motivation and gender of the adolescent. It was found that for a group of pupils with motivation of achievement and learning-cognitive motivation the values of educational activity are fairly coordinated and are a source of personal development, while for a group of pupils with motivation of affiliation, prestige and competition such values mean little and are often followed by internal conflicts and vacuums.
