System analysis of the approaches to the notion of “tolerance”

Abstract

Research of any phenomenon suggests clarification of its nature - a clear definition of the content of the notion signifying the phenomenon. For the present research such is “tolerance”. Tolerance in modern conditions becomes especially important, as there is a rise of violence, envy, mutual intolerance, aggressiveness. The contribution examines the theoretical foundations of system analysis of the approaches to the notion of “tolerance”. The fact that there are different point of view on defining tolerance, determines the multiplicity of the term’s translations and polysemy of the corresponding scientific notion. The author analyses four models of tolerance. The content of the types of tolerance is studied by many researchers of this problem. The review of literature showed that tolerance determines the establishment and formulation of functions. Psychological- educational studies mention practically the same number of components of tolerance: from 3 to 4. Tolerance is characterized by an integral complex of interrelated criteria (cognitive, emotional and practical-operative).
