Abstract

The aim of the research which is presented in the article was to identify the peculiarities of the lifestyle of students with a high level of failure avoidance motivation. 132 students of full-time courses from different Moscow higher education institutions took part in the research: 64 girls and 68 boys, studying humanities (66 persons), engineering sciences (48) and natural sciences (18); all courses from the first to the sixth were represented, the age of the respondents was from 17 to 24 years. The failure avoidance motivation was measured by means of the Ehlers’ questionnaire. On the basis of empirical data, the authors identified a number of specific features of the lifestyle of students with a high failure avoidance motivation dominating over success achievement motivation: they significantly less frequently combine studying with working and less frequently work during holidays, more frequently than others choose passive contemplative occupations as their hobbies and less frequently – the communicative ones. The discussion of the results points out the danger for this category of students of forming passivity and personal infantilism and the necessity of carrying out correctional work with them.
