Socio -psychological determinants of deviant behavior in children's homes

Abstract

We discuss various socio-psychological predictors of deviant behavior in children living in orphanages. We provide recent statistics on the number of children living in orphanages in Russian Federation and the reasons for their getting there. We emphasize that getting the child to an orphanage causes severe stress as a result of which different etymologies disorders may arise. Living in an orphanage also leaves its mark on their character: as there exist specific laws and own hierarchy, the child needs to follow them. An important factor is their isolation from a full family upbringing: children are not fully aware of how to build their own family and bring up children that can lead to problems later in life. Lack of qualified personnel also influences the formation of deviant behavior - education and control have formal nature, children are mostly left to themselves, their morality and ethics are underdeveloped.
