Features of attitudes towards family relationships in convicted men who previously served prison terms

Context and relevance. The rise in crime, which has reached its peak in the last decade, requires a thorough analysis of the root causes of various criminal acts in order to develop effective measures to prevent recidivism and successfully rehabilitate individuals who have served their sentences in correctional institutions. Objective. To study attitudes towards family relationships in men convicted of violent and non-violent crimes who have previously served prison terms. Hypotheses. Men convicted of violent and non-violent crimes who have previously served prison terms are characterized by a disunited type of family cohesion and a rigid type of family adaptation; men convicted of violent crimes who have previously served prison terms do not have a structured type of family adaptation; men convicted of violent and non-violent crimes tend to have negative family attitudes: low cohesion, a desire for independence among family members, emotional detachment, a lack of common interests in spending free time, minimal support for each other, and an increased sense of anxiety when trying to establish communication or discuss problems. Methods and Materials. The questionnaires “Family Adaptation and Cohesion Scales”, FACES-3, D. Olson et al., adaptation by E.G. Eidemiller, M.Yu. Gorodnova; “Measuring Attitudes in a Married Couple” by Yu.E. Aleshina et al.; semi-standardized interview. The empirical study was conducted in penal colonies of the territorial bodies of the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Vologda and Sverdlovsk regions, the Trans-Baikal Territory. Results and conclusions. Men convicted of violent crimes predominantly demonstrate hierarchical attitudes, which contribute to the belief that dominance and control over others are necessary. Convicted men who have committed non-violent crimes often demonstrate a spontaneous desire for immediate gratification in their family life, while ignoring their obligations.
