Abstract

The traditional family in both Russian and American societies has undergone se-rious transformations in terms of its composition, role and functions of its members. With historic de-velopments underlying socio-economic behavior of and within a household, the two countries followed different modes of family evolution. Yet, the era of globalization has balanced those disparities and now the two countries experience similar problems with the family institution functioning in the con-temporary society.
