Subject and System
Abstract
"Subject" and "system" are concepts with a basic meaning not only in activity theory but far beyond it. The term "system" was introduced into nearly all sciences by (natural) science and is also well known in everyday language. The term "subject" has its origin in social science. Also this term - albeit not so obvious - was introduced into science and everyday language. The logical incompatibility between both terms is an expression of the continuing split between the sciences.
