The editorial board of the Cultural-Historical Psychology journal invites submissions to Special Issue 1 (2026) on “Cultural-Historical Psychology: A Contemporary Dialogue of Approaches, Russia–South Africa.” The guest editors of the issue are V.V. Rubtsov (Russia) and J. Hardman (South Africa). This issue inaugurates a new scholarly series of regional issues of the journal, dedicated to presenting and analysing the development of cultural-historical psychology in different countries and regions. The aim of the series is to show how the conceptual apparatus and methodological foundations of cultural-historical psychology are articulated and transformed across diverse scientific and educational contexts, as well as in practices of psychological support and care.
The dialogue between Russian and South African research traditions is intended to identify the stable conceptual core of the cultural-historical approach and to trace new lines of its development under contemporary conditions of social change. We invite theoretical and methodological articles that refine key categories and principles of cultural-historical psychology; empirical and experimental studies that demonstrate the potential of the approach in education, professional training, clinical and social practice; contributions that analyse the regional experience of South Africa; as well as comparative studies that bring different contexts into dialogue. Contributions to the special issue will be organised around two main foci: the theoretical and methodological foundations of cultural-historical psychology, and contemporary experimental and practice-oriented studies.
Manuscripts should be submitted via the journal’s standard online submission system, indicating that the manuscript is intended for the special issue “Russia–South Africa.” Manuscripts intended for this special issue should be submitted by 1 February 2026. Detailed information on manuscript preparation and submission procedures is available on the MSUPE Journal Manuscript Submission page of the PsyJournals.ru portal:
