Academic Adaptation of Turkish Students in Russian Universities in the Context of Digital Educational Environment and International Student Mobility

6

Abstract

This study is devoted to the academic and social adaptation of Turkish students in Russian universities with a special focus on the role of the digital educational environment. Within a qualitative phenomenological approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 students in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Thematic analysis identified four main areas: (1) language barriers and academic difficulties, (2) cultural differences and everyday practices, (3) sources of social support, and (4) coping strategies. It was shown that digital tools (online courses, video platforms, messengers, student online communities) help to reduce the impact of language and institutional barriers by facilitating access to materials, organizing study groups, and maintaining contacts. The results are discussed in the framework of acculturation models (Berry), academic integration (Tinto), and social support (Cohen & Wills).
