Альберт Эллис (Albert Ellis)американский клинический психолог и психотерапевт, основоположник рационально-эмотивной терапииодной из самых известных (в особенно­сти в США) психотерапевтических школ когнитивной ори­ентации. Получил степень доктора наук по клинической психо­логии в Колумбийском университете (г. Нью-Йорк). В течение многих лет практиковал классический психоанализ и психоана­литически ориентированную психотерапию. Испытав разо­чарование в эффективности психоаналитического подхода, в 40-50-е годы разработал основные принципы своего собствен­ного психотерапевтического метода, который отличался от психоанализа прежде всего ориентацией не на использова­ние конфликтного инфантильного опыта пациентов, а на кор­рекцию их иррациональных установок, а также гораздо более активной и директивной позицией психотерапевта. В 1959г. основал Институт рационально-эмотивной терапии в Нью-Йорке, который возглавляет и по сей день. Альберт Эллис опубликовал в различных психотерапевтических изданиях более 600 статей по вопросам применения рационально-эмотивного подхода в индивидуальной, групповой и се­мейной психотерапии. Он является автором и редактором более 50 книг и монографий; некоторые из них стали бестсел­лерами. Наиболее известными его работами являются: A New Guide to Rational Living (1975); Humanistic Psychotherapy (1973); A Guide to Succesful Marriage (1961); The Art and Science of Love (1969).
