Abstract

Context and relevance. Subjective well-being is an important condition for successful academic and extracurricular activities of adolescents, as well as a key component of their psychological health. Sports activities are one of the important factors influencing the subjective well-being of adolescents. Sport has a positive effect on both the physical and mental health of children. Objective. To identify the features of the subjective well-being of younger adolescents studying at a sports school. Methods and materials. The study involved 240 students aged 11—12 (141 boys and 99 girls), including 120 students (80 boys and 40 girls) from a Moscow sports school and 120 students (61 boys and 59 girls) from a Moscow educational institution. The following methods were used: D.A. Leontiev’s Purpose-in-Life Test (PIL); the Test of Differentiated Self-Assessment of Functional State (well-being, activity, mood) by V.A. Doskin, N.A. Lavrentieva, V.B. Sharai and M.P. Miroshnikov; the method “Multidimensional Scale of Life Satisfaction” by O.A. Sychev, T.O. Gordeeva, M.V. Lunkina, E.N. Osina and A.N. Sidneva (based on the Multidimensional Students Life Satisfaction Scale (MSLSS) questionnaire by E.S. Hubner). Nonparametric statistical methods were used to process the data: Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient (ρ) and the Mann—Whitney U test (IBM SPSS Statistics 23 program). Results. The main feature of the subjective well-being of girls studying at a sports school is satisfaction with communication with friends, while boys are satisfied with the emotional saturation of their lives and family. Younger teenagers studying at a comprehensive school are more likely than younger teenagers studying at a sports school to be satisfied with communication with teachers. Conclusions. It is shown that there are peculiarities of the subjective well-being of younger adolescents studying in general education and sports schools.
