A study of scientific and methodological approaches to the use of cases in the practical training of teaching staff

Context and relevance. The priority area for the development of higher pedagogical education is the strengthening of the practical component in the training of teaching staff. One of the promising modern approaches to addressing this issue is the use of the case method. The relevance of studying scientific and methodological approaches to using cases in the practical training of student teachers is dictated by the need to understand and identify the most effective practices for using modern teaching tools that ensure the practical readiness of graduates in pedagogical fields to solve professional tasks. Objective. A comprehensive analysis of research conducted by domestic and foreign scholars aimed at studying scientific and methodological approaches to the use of case studies in the practical training of teaching staff. Methods and materials. The materials used to study, generalize, and systematize the scientific results on the issue under investigation were the works of leading Russian scientists and foreign researchers. They include scientific publications on the topic of the work: the main list of scientific works published over the past 5 years, and an additional list of earlier publications. The selection of theoretical sources was carried out using the key words: “higher pedagogical education”, “practice‑oriented education”, “practical training of future teachers”, “case method” in the library databases “eLIBRARY.RU”, “Google Scholar” and “Scopus”. The logic of the research and the theoretical framework of the work determined the appropriate methods: the method of system analysis and abstract interpretation, the method of formalization, and the axiomatic method. Results. It has been revealed that the design of the educational process under conditions of using educational cases implements the methodology of the activity‑based approach, which determines the practice‑oriented nature of students’ learning. The theoretical analysis of methodological approaches to using the case method substantiates the expediency and necessity of including work with cases in the practical training of student‑teachers. Conclusions. The method under study is an effective tool for addressing the problem of dissonance between theoretical knowledge and practical competencies in the field of teacher education. The analysis of situations that model pedagogical reality, and the subsequent professional actions of students based on an understanding of the conditions of the process, contribute to the formation of graduates’ practical readiness for real working conditions, the development of professional thinking, and the reduction of adaptation barriers by providing opportunities for repeated practice of professional decision‑making.
