Errors caused by non-speech symptoms when reproducing words of various syllable structure in children aged 6—7 with general speech underdevelopment (level III) (Part 1)
Abstract
Context and relevance. In cases of general speech underdevelopment (GSU), a violation of the syllabic structure of words is observed. The causes of violations of the syllabic structure of words are varied, and one of them is non‑speech symptoms. Previously, we identified errors in the syllabic structure of words in children aged 6—7 with GSU (level III of speech development), which were caused by reduced mental tone and a certain rigidity of the main nervous processes. Taking these types of errors into account is necessary when organizing speech therapy work with children with GSU (level III of speech development) both in preschool and school age. The absence of such consideration leads to difficulties in absorbing the learning material. Objective. To expand the understanding of the mechanisms underlying errors caused by non‑speech symptoms in children aged 6—7 with GSU (level III of speech development) who have impaired syllabic structure of words. Methods and materials. The following sets of tasks were used, as presented by G.V. Babina and N.Yu. Safonkina: “Pronouncing words of varying syllabic structure without the help of a speech therapist: initial and repeated articulation” (Set A) and “Pronouncing words of varying syllabic structure with the help of a speech therapist: imitative (if necessary, slowed‑down) and coupled articulation” (Set B). The mechanisms of errors caused by non‑speech symptoms are described based on the material of two‑syllable words without and with consonant clusters; monosyllabic words with consonant clusters; three‑syllable words without and with consonant clusters; and polysyllabic words without and with consonant clusters. Results. This article examines the mechanisms underlying errors caused by non‑speech symptoms when children aged 6—7 with GSU (level III of speech development) reproduce words of varying syllabic structure. Conclusions. It is noted that the most common errors are those caused by a certain rigidity of the main nervous processes (23% of the total number); errors caused by reduced mental tone are somewhat less common (13.5% of the total); and errors caused by reduced mental tone and a certain rigidity of the main nervous processes are minimal (0.3% of the total). The forms of presentation of the obtained results are indicated to enable speech therapists to more quickly and accurately identify errors caused by non‑speech symptoms when reproducing words of varying syllabic structure in children aged 6—7 with general speech underdevelopment (level III of speech development). It is stated that these materials will be presented in the following article: “Errors caused by non‑speech symptoms when reproducing words of varying syllabic structure in children aged 6—7 with general speech underdevelopment (level III) (Part 2)”.
