The Experience of Psychological Analysis of Conflicts in a Student Dormitory

2271

Abstract

The article is devoted to students from another towns, living during studies in the dormitories of the University. We discuss the adaptation of the first-year students to life in a dormitory, as well as conflicts between roommates that are regarded as indicators of adaptation to the dormitory. The article summarizes the results of a twomonths longitudinal study, in which first-year students of the «Dubna» University have participated and presents the psychological analysis of conflicts in the dormitory room. Results indicate that the average number of conflicts nonlinearly varies from week to week, peaking at 3rd—4th weeks, the difference between the boundary two-week periods (1—2 weeks versus 7—8 weeks) was not statistically significant. We believe that the observed decrease in the number of conflicts at the end of the second month may be an indicator for a successful adaptation, although it is too early to state the full adaptation.
