Abstract

The relevance of the study is due to the lack of reliable data revealing the determinants and nature of the relationship between self-attitude and group identity in young athletes. Thus, the aim of the study was to identify the relationship between the components of self-attitude and group identity in adolescent and adolescent athletes, as well as to analyze the gender and age specifics of this relationship. The study involved 360 athletes in an equal ratio of male and female, aged 15 to 18 years, who are members of the Russian Boxing Federation. The study used the Self-attitude Questionnaire by V. V. Stolin and S. R. Pantileev; the Questionnaire of group identity adapted by O. V. Vaskova. As a result of the research, a connection has been established between the components of self-attitude and group identity. In adolescence, self-interest and self-confidence are directly related to collective self-esteem. In adolescence, self-esteem is positively correlated with in-group bonding, and intergroup competition is negatively associated with autosympathy and self-blame. In male athletes, global self-attitude is directly related to top-down comparison and intergroup competition, while centrality is negatively related to self-blame. In female athletes, collective self-esteem is positively associated with a global self-attitude. The data obtained expand and complement the scientific base of ideas about the functioning and development of the phenomenon of identity, and also indicate that the relationship between the components of self-attitude and group identity in athletes during adolescence is both direct and inverse and is determined by gender and age differences.
