Abstract

The article focuses on the problem of studying, supporting and maintaining sibling contacts in institutionalized children. A change or loss of the relationships between brothers and sisters outside the family can be very traumatic, whereas maintaining such contacts can help reduce the risk of social orphanage in further generations. The article presents results of the research on sibling communication in children’s homes. These results reflect the specificity of communication between institutionalized siblings, of their perception of the situation, and provide some insights into the work with siblings carried out by children’s home staff.
