Researching Speech Competencethrough Psychology Students' Stories about Themselves

Abstract

The article presents the author's hypothesis on the structural and semantic characteristics of speech competence in psychology students' stories about themselves. Speech competence is regarded as a combination of knowledge and skills related to one's use of language and speech, to the ways and methods of representing psychological matter in various texts. The article describes a special diagnostic technique for active and passive (in parts) speech competence. The results obtained in the research indicate that the level of speech competence and, in particular, of active speech competence development in psychology students of the Tula State University is not high enough.
