Neurocognitive dysontogenesis and clinical neuropsychology of childhood

Abstract

The contribution presents a new approach to the analysis of the disrupted cognitive development of children with congenital local brain damage. Fractional discontinuity in the course of development of certain cognitive functions with the different types of cerebral pathology can be described as the versions of neurocognitive dysontogenesis, which are caused by two groups of biological factors: characteristics, which are common for all individuals (age and sex), and specific characteristics of neurosurgical pathology (type, lateralization and localization). Using the term “neurocognitive dysontogenesis” for defining cognitive development disorder allows to study mental functions disorder when cerebral pathology is present with due consideration of them being determined by biological factors and not independently.
