Abstract

Context and Relevance. The article presents a literature review of a number of modern studies dedicated to examining the features of mental development in childhood under various courses of oncological diseases and long-term treatment in a medical institution. Aim. To identify the features of mental development in children with oncological diseases. Materials and Methods. Analysis of contemporary international literature on the research topic. Results. The importance of researchers understanding the link between the specific features of the oncological disease course, prolonged treatment in a medical institution, and mental development in childhood is emphasized. The practical significance of modern research results to be used in the development and implementation of programs for psychological and pedagogical correction of mental development disorders and psychosocial rehabilitation in a hospital school within a pediatric oncology inpatient unit is outlined. In the article, the author proposes variants of higher mental function impairments in children with various oncological diseases, where the situation of a life-threatening illness is the primary biological factor. Conclusions. Taking into account the identified variability of higher mental function impairments in children with different oncological diseases can assist educational psychologists in hospital schools in developing recommendations for parents and teachers on creating special conditions for the education and upbringing of children with oncological diseases.
