On temperament typology in teaching general psychology

Abstract

A construction of psychological typologies from the point of view of linear algebra is proposed. The necessary condition the existence of n-dimensional spaces is to define basis vectors that do not exist in the real life, but serve as an instrument for formal description of psychological attributes. An example of such a description is shown on the base of temperaments theory. The temperamental space unambiguously corresponds to the colors represented in the printing industry which obviously represents the variety of colors in full. Each color one-to-one corresponds to a temperamental type. Consequently, the variety of the temperaments is as big as the variety of colors. Hence, the necessity of introducing abstractions for strict determination of psychological typologies is derived.
