Adaptation of the «Life project scale-LPS» questionnaire on the Russian sample

Context and relevance. Life project is defined as an ongoing, evolving process of forming, enacting, and maintaining intentional structures and actions that systematically embrace a long-term, meaningful, and prospective narrative capable of guiding decisions and behavior in daily life. Diagnostics of the life project provides unique data on the extent to which a person identifies his future. Objective. The study had its purpose to adapt Coscioni's Life Project Scale (LPS) on the Russian sample. The questionnaire is currently being tested in several countries. The article provides theoretical grounds for considering the phenomenon of a life project as a component of a person’s narrative identity. Hypothesis. The questionnaire consists of two parts. The first one involves the respondent listing the main life goals, and the second one is a classic questionnaire including two subscales: identification and engagement. Methods and materials. The questionnaire consists of two parts. The first one involves the respondent listing the main life goals, and the second one is a classic questionnaire including two subscales: identification and involvement. To verify the validity, the following were used: the brief measure of the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI-15), Moscow Authenticity Scale, and Future Consequences Scale (CFC-14). 549 people took part in the questionnaire adaptation study (M = 27,08, SD = 10,94, 66% female). Results. Confirmation factor analysis confirmed a two-factor model identical to the original method structure (χ 2 = 124,9 (19), p < 0.001, CFI = 0,986; GFI = 0,978; RMSEA = 0,066; TLI = 0,939). High reliability values of the questionnaire scales were obtained. The study has revealed the significant relationships between the questionnaire subscales and the characteristics reflecting a person’s focus on the future, focus on implementing plans, taking into account the consequences of one’s actions in the distant future, as well as authenticity. Conclusions. The results obtained allow to recommend the «Life Project Scale» as a valid research and psychodiagnostics tool.
