Abstract

The article addresses the relevant psychodidactic problem of teaching pupils how to understand texts. As it is stated, for some reasons teachers are often unprepared to solve such problem. The author reflects on the ability of a textbook to organize the joint distributed activity between a teacher and his pupils in the process of teaching early school age children how to understand texts. The article describes the content of a textbook (the system of techniques used for nderstanding the text), its structural and functional characteristics, and gives an example of using such textbooks on lessons in primary school. The analysis of the developmental xperiment results proves the effectiveness of teaching early school age children how to understand texts and reveals the role of a textbook in a teacher's preparedness to use a new educational echnology and in his/her personal and professional growth as well.
