The Influence of Mass Culture Images on the Preferred Image of a Pupil in Children Aged 6–7 Years

The author raises the question of mass culture influence on the development of the preferred image of a pupil in children of 6–7 years beginning their education. The article describes the results of a three stage research study using an original technique. It gives the research data on the influence of ethnical images on the development of a pupil's image in children aged 6–7 years which was collected in the process of psychological and pedagogical work. The author concludes that very few children associate themselves with a pupil or with any nationality images (Russian, Bashkir etc.). Most of them (both girls and boys) prefer mass media images of heroes, whose way of life they actually adore. These images have such a strong "hold" on children that it can be quite difficult for them to accept a new image of a pupil when they enter school. Thus the author states, that mass media make the process of entering school difficult for children of 6–7 years imposing their cliches upon children and interfering with the school adaptation. So children are often brought up against difficulties in making friends and in understanding the meaning of school education.
