Features of the Pupil’s Internal Position as a Risk Factor in the Development of Academic Activity

Abstract

The article discusses the possibility of diagnostics of pupil’s internal position in the primary school age, in adolescence and early youth used for the prediction of possible risks in the development of academic activity (loss of interest to learning, drop out of school, etc.). On the basis of theoretical propositions made by L.I. Bozhovich the author examines the current research on pupils’ internal position (including those carried out under his supervision). Possibilities of diagnostics of the various aspects of pupil’s internal position (emotional, motivational, and reflexive) were analyzed. Findings indicate that parameters predicting risks are low level of academic activity motivation, negative emotions to learning (especially school anxiety), and external locus of control. Index of risk for students in specialized secondary educational institutions is the lack of understanding of the future occupation. The author discusses the possible applications of the study results for the psychological aid to pupils and students in specialized secondary educational establishments.
