The Role of Psychological Training and Support in the Implementation of Parenting Functions

Abstract

The article presents results of a survey among more than 1000 Russian women of reproductive age on their views on reproductive and parental behavior. The results indicate that there is a necessity in organization of preparation for parenthood in educational institutions, the development of a targeted psychological and educational support system for pregnant women and young parents. According to the results the goals of psychological support for parents and training of families expecting children were formulated. The author presents a systemic resource approach to the diagnosis of psychological preparedness for motherhood, based on the activity concept of A.N. Leontiev. The article discusses the importance of diagnostics of the parenthood in the "self-concept" space of the future and novice mother. The ways of psychological work with the personal meaning of motherhood are indicated.
