The Role of Mid-Status Adolescents in Developing and Maintaining the Normative Structure of the Group

Abstract

The article examines the relationship between status of adolescent students in a secondary education school and their mastering and sustenance of the group norms in the classroom. The hypothesis of the study was that the mid-status adolescents are the main carriers of the group norms in the study group and that they maintain stability of norms within the group. The study involved 29 students of the SEI secondary school № 1716 “Eureka – Ogonyok” aged 12: 12 girls and 17 boys. The set of socio-psychological techniques was used: sociometry, self- sociometry, referencemetry, self- referencemetry, technique for determining the informal group structure of power and modified questionnaire of K.M. Gaydar. As a result of the study, the specifics of mastering and sustaining various types of group norms in each equally-status strata of adolescent students were described. Results also indicate that the most stable in terms of retention and transmission of group norms of the class (study group) is the mid-status adolescents’ strata.
