Abstract

The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of subject field of sports psychology and psychology of physical education, related to fitness classes. We consider the motivational factors and mechanisms that influence professional sport and fitness activities. We review Russian and foreign theoretical research on this problem. Particular attention is paid to identification with the image of "I – athlete" as one of the major mechanisms of motivation for people focused on a healthy lifestyle. We describe the results of a pilot study of healthy lifestyle representations among professional athletes and people involved in fitness. We propose a prospective complex study of various aspects of motivation in people actively involved in fitness.
