Abstract

The article presents the results of an empirical examination of the relationship between the volitional qualities and professional and value orientations of the future officers in the penitentiary field. The sample consisted of 298 cadets enrolled in a departmental institution of higher education of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia. The diagnostics was performed using following techniques: "Diagnostics of Professional and Value Personality Orientations" (by N.A. Samoylik) and "Diagnostics Questionnaire of Volitional Personality Qualities" (by M.V. Chumakov). From the obtained results it was concluded that irregardless of one's personal type of professional and value orientations, cadets are distinguished by volitional qualities, such as responsibility, determination, self-reliance, tenacity, persistence and firmness of purpose. The links revealed reflect a general tendency to officers' professional development, which lies in a specifically organized process of acceptance and understanding of the key values of their future service. These results can be used in individual counseling and training courses aimed at the formation of professional values and predicting the career of the future professionals of the correctional facilities.
