Family relationships and social network addiction as factors of suicidal behavior in adolescents
Abstract
Context and relevance. In the context of growing global concern about the problem of teenage suicide, the question of the causes of suicidal behavior is relevant, including in the context of understanding the role of family relationships and a teenager’s passion for social networks. Target. To analyze and summarize the results of modern research on the relationship between intrafamily relationships, the use of social networks and suicidal behavior of adolescents in order to formulate recommendations for parents on building constructive communication. Research question. What factors in family relationships contribute to/prevent the risk of suicidal behavior in a teenager? What is the role of social media involvement in adolescent suicidal behavior? What are the measures to prevent suicidal behavior in adolescence? Methods and materials. Theoretical analysis of scientific publications in the Web of Science and Scopus databases over the past 5 years. Results. Conflicts between parent and teenager, authoritarian parenting style, lack of maternal warmth along with pronounced control, problematic use of the Internet are key factors in suicidal behavior in adolescence. Conclusions. The data obtained in the research allows us to determine the role of family relationships and involvement in social networks in the manifestation of suicidal behavior in adolescents, and to develop theoretical foundations for organizing effective preventive and psychocorrectional work with adolescents and their families.
